The Department of Housing and Urban Development was founded in 1965 under President Lyndon Johnson to develop and execute policy on housing and cities.
Department of Transportation
The United States Department of Transportationa was established on October 15, 1966. Its mission is to "Serve the United States by ensuring a fast, safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and enhances the quality of life of the American people, today and into the future."
Department of Health and Human Services
The Department of Health and Human Services was created when President Jimmy Carter signed the Department of Education Organization Act (PL 96-88) in 1979. Its purpose is to protect the health of all Americans and providing essential human services.
Department of Labor
The Department of Labor is responsible for occupational safety, wage and hour standards, unemployment insurance benefits, re-employment services, and some economic statistics.
Department of Justice
The US Department of Justice is charged with enforcing the law and ensuring fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans (see 28 U.S.C. § 501). Its head is the Attorney General.
